Our Wildlife Foundation

Creating Wildlife Advocates

Give...and the World Gives Back...Pictured here is lovely Maya Steinhart, 6 years old from Sacramento. When Maya found out her parents, Monica and Daniel were taking her to Safari West, she saved up and donated one hundred and three pennies to our wildlife conservation fund! Thank you Maya, Safari West would not exist without friends like you.

Safari West Wildlife Foundation (SWWF/FSW) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization created to support the objectives of Safari West.

Our work, the protection and preservation of exceptional animals and the education of adult and student visitors flies in the face of modern American living, where the constant goal seems only to be a shark-like hunt for the new for newness' sake.

At Safari West we let our visitors discover that wild creatures are perfect as they are.  Our supporters allow us to lure someone away from a computer screen showing a flat, cold, photo of a cheetah and draw them close enough to feel her hot breath as a purr rumbles out of her chest.

Preserving nature is not a virtual endeavor - it is a real, living, breathing, purring, howling, trumpeting, roaring responsibility we feel is worth devoting our lives to.

We owe it to each other and to the majestic creatures with whom we share this planet to teach, educate and inspire not only the next generation, but subsequent ones as well.

Through the Safari West Wildlife Foundation, we work toward a single-minded goal of world conservation, and a day when respect for our fellow living creatures is finally taken for granted.  What a wonderful day that would be!

Safari West Wildlife Foundation, (SWWF) a research and educational nonprofit organization, takes an active part in educating the local community through seminars, workshops, wildlife camps for children and more. This helps us all develop a deeper appreciation for the magnificent creatures with whom we share this planet.

By supporting the work of our foundation, you’ll help us continue and expand our never ending - efforts in support of conserving nature and its most beautiful inhabitants.

Thank you for honoring our commitment with your support. Our work would not be possible without you.

Our Mission Statement:

Safari West Wildlife Foundation (SWWF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was incorporated in 1997 (originally under the name Friends of Safari West).

The Safari West Wildlife Foundation is a research and educational nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of wildlife.

The foundation helps the community develop a deeper appreciation for the natural environment and conservation through tours, seminars, workshops, wildlife camps for children, and various other efforts.

Our Safari West Discover Africa program offers a priceless learning experience to children who might never otherwise have this opportunity. We find that even a simple and fun activity such as counting a zebra’s stripes leaves a lasting "conservation imprint" on young developing minds.

Teaching Children to appreciate wildlife and nature
Our 2007/2008 priority is to further develop and support our Discover Africa field trip program. Our vision is to extend the Safari West experience through our specially designed educational field trips to as many school children as possible by subsidizing the cost of their visits.

Support the work of Safari West Wildlife Foundation through a donation to benefit our Discover Africa field trip program. Your tax-deductible contribution can help bring a child to Safari West and open their eyes and ears to the natural world.

Donations can be mailed to Safari West Wildlife Foundation, 3115 Porter Creek Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. Attention: Kristin Muelrath, Foundation Treasurer.

California's ongoing fiscal crisis has slashed already scant budgets for school field trips. Many schools now consider off-site excursions a luxury beyond their means. Safari West Wildlife Foundation is committed to extending field trip opportunities to schools in Sonoma, Napa, and Lake Counties by providing scholarships to one classroom every month. Our hope is that no school, regardless of its budget, be denied this experience. Per pupil tour cost is $10; with teacher preparation, chaperones, and transportation, underwriting costs for an entire classroom can run from $500 to $800 depending on class size and travel distance.

Children who come to Safari West for naturalist-led tours expand their awareness of the natural world, conservation issues, and the plight of African and other wildlife. They leave with a tangible appreciation, impossible to simulate in a classroom because they've had the extraordinary opportunity to see, living and breathing, the real thing.
