About the Speaker
Maaike Plomp is a professional animal welfare specialist, world traveler, and wildlife photographer. For over a decade, she has worked with a diversity of wildlife species at zoos and sanctuaries in the Netherlands, Finland, Belize and the USA. However, Maaike’s passion is for primates and she has extensive experience working with new world monkeys, such as capuchins, marmosets, tamarins, spider monkeys and squirrel monkeys. While living in Belize, she managed the enrichment program for endangered Geoffrey’s spider monkeys and Yucatán black howler monkeys at a primate rehabilitation center. Currently, Maaike is a welfare and behavior specialist for Squirrel Monkey Haven, which is a California-based project working to provide lifelong sanctuary care to squirrel monkeys retired from research. Maaike uses her passion for primates and her knowledge of their behavior to educate the public about these amazing animals.
