Become a Junior Keeper!

The Safari West Junior Keeper Program is open to qualified young people between the ages of 12 and 16. It’s a chance to learn about the opportunities available in animal care and husbandry, conservation, and related scientific fields.

In addition to working directly with our animals and learning about the role of the keeper, Junior Keepers are involved in interpretation, which is the technique of presenting information to the public in a fun and comprehensive way. Over the course of the program, our Junior Keepers discover the importance of caring for our native species as well as the exotic animals in our collection. They also develop and master several skills, among them public speaking, basic husbandry, organization, and team building.

The Junior Keeper Program is open to a select, dedicated few who are able to make a long-term commitment. We also offer community service opportunities.

Please see our Facebook page to see Junior Keepers in action.
